Voluntary Carbon Market Disclosure Act

California Assembly Bill 1305, the Voluntary Carbon Market Disclosure Act (VCMDA), requires certain disclosures, beginning January 1, 2024, for entities that sell, market, purchase or use voluntary carbon offsets within the State of California, as well as entities that make net zero or carbon neutral claims in the state. To comply with the requirements of the VCMDA, Southern Company discloses the necessary information on its company website at the following locations.

Section 44475 applies to entities that market or sell voluntary carbon offsets within the State of California. Information on the voluntary carbon offsets, including renewable energy credits (RECs), sold from facilities across the Southern Company system can be found at the following link:

Section 44475.1 applies to entities that purchase or use voluntary carbon offsets within the State of California.  Southern Company subsidiaries do not purchase or use voluntary carbon offsets within the State of California.

Section 44475.2 applies to entities that make net zero, carbon neutral or greenhouse gas emission reduction claims within the State of California. The required disclosures can be found within the following Southern Company documents:
